Sunday October 25 — Session 13 — 14:30-15:30 UTC — Strand: SDG 4
How to start an MUN club with no money and in a country where on one is familiar with the word MUN? The idea of starting Hope for Education and Leadership in Afghanistan (HELA), the first ever model UN organization in Afghanistan, started in 2015. At first it was just an MUN club. Now with the passage of time it has become a national organization, running MUN conferences in every province of Afghanistan.. In this presentation, we will share the HELA story and will tell you how to successfully start a change maker initiative without any financial resources, just like we did.
At HELA organization we are empowering youth through Model UN trainings and conferences throughout Afghanistan, raising awareness about UNODC mandates, empowering women in business and fighting towards corruption in the public sectors of Afghanistan. Currently HELA organization is working in four major provinces of Afghanistan and training over than 500 unique university students in Model UN each year.
My name is Negina Shinwari, I am currently working with HELA as Programmes Manager and Leader of the Women Empowerment project. I am studying Medicine at Ariana University Afghanistan.
I first came to HELA in 2015 and was a member of HELA delegation to THIMUN Qatar International conference 2016, which was the most interesting and full of experience trip of my life and onward then I promised myself to serve my country and bring changes in the life of youth as HELA do. So I stick to the HELA team and work with them in different parts to help my people and also develop my skills.
My dream is to be one of a good changemaker to this world!
My name is Rahmatullah Hamdard, a graduate student at Dunya University of Afghanistan, holding Masters in Business Administration with concentration in Public Administration. I am currently working for Free to Run International organization (an organization which empowers women through adventure sports in Afghanistan and Iraq) as Finance and Operations Manager and as part of my social work I have been working for Hope for Education and Leadership in Afghanistan organization (HELA) which I have founded alongside my other four colleagues in 2015.
Since childhood I was dreaming to bring positive changes to my society, bring hopes to the lives of so many hopeless Afghan youth, fight towards wrong beings in my country, and I have fulfilled those dreams when I was only 19 years old by founding HELA organization (the word HELA means hope in one of Afghan national languages), because the philosophy of my life is that; “The world will have remembered you only, if you leave a legacy behind”.
My name is Sulaiman Sulaimankhil, I am 23 years old. I have an undergraduate degree in business administration (BBA) from swiss UMEF university of Afghanistan (Dunya) and I am currently pursuing my MBA degree in Kardan university. I am the Co-founder and deputy CEO of HELA organization. I am highly involved in leadership activities, and also I have been able to empower today’s youth through providing different opportunities. I have participated in many MUN conferences and also leadership conferences like QLC in Qatar and I have led several delegations of Afghan students to international MUN conferences. Beside the Non-profit activities, I am the CFO of a company in Afghanistan. My dream in the future is to be an active leader of my society and global community, and get the ability to help people, and bring a huge change to the world.
