Gen-Z lives and breathes sustainability. That’s why we, at Voiz Reviews, believe our generation can be the driving force behind creating a world with more sustainable and responsible consumption – what you may also know as SDG 12. Our global team of college-aged students rate and review products (think chocolate, sunscreen, even the iPhone 11) based on their sustainability on the most basic level. The main questions we ask ourselves are “What is it made of?“, “How is it made?” and “Who makes it”?“. What we are doing goes way beyond that. We’re also calling out green-washing, evaluating company labor practices, and pointing consumers to the companies who are doing things right, or at least trying to. This workshop will take you through our process and discuss how we see Gen-Z impacting the world through the lens of SDG 12.

I believe sustainability is the need of the hour. I have a keen interest in clean energy and water treatment technologies. Through my involvement with non-profit organizations, including Bhumi and Net Impact Montreal, I have seen the effects of resource scarcity firsthand, propelling me toward seeking a career in sustainability. I am pursuing a Masters in Applied Environmental Engineering at McGill University after earning a bachelor’s in chemical engineering in India. My academic career has included research in electro fermentation of waste to produce hydrogen (green fuel), soil rehabilitation,  wastewater treatment, and development of portable chemical sensors to detect contaminants in water. I am also a passionate writer who produces technical content/articles for sustainability startups like Voiz and Circle.Hi!

Elisa Zhang (aka “Elsa” to friends), born and raised in NYC, and I’m currently finishing my last semester of undergraduate studies at Cornell University. My sustainability journey started when I first went vegan three years ago, and it completely changed the trajectory of my life and career. I started developing a whole world view – one in which we, as humans, must do our part in protecting it. One internship at an urban rooftop farming startup in Hong Kong later, I went from studying to be a surgeon to pursue sustainability full time.

Sanskriti Tandon is a junior at Georgetown University in Qatar, studying International Economics and Governments. She has been actively advocating for the SDGs through her educational work with students worldwide, which led her to present on the TQ-Afghanistan Initiative at the UN in 2019. Sanskriti interned for the Ambassador of Panama in Qatar to further explore the convergence of bureaucratic management and social affairs. She is currently working on exploring the importance of social entrepreneurship and developing a systematic learning approach alongside hosting an SDG Post-COVID Design platform with partners across the region.
